      <description><![CDATA[<p>RICHMOND<strong> &#8212; </strong>Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has advertised a $120 million project to rehabilitate 163 lane miles of I-264 and I-64 in the Hampton Roads region. Contracts are scheduled to be awarded by the end of the year, with construction beginning early next year. In the meantime, VDOT continues to address deteriorating sections of pavement.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>RICHMOND &#8211; Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that HB 2313, the transportation funding bill he signed into law this week, went into immediate action today when the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) released the state&#8217;s working draft of the Fiscal Years 2014-2019 Six-Year Improvement Program. The program allocates $15.4 billion, a $4 billion increase, in funding to transportation improvements over the next six fiscal years beginning July 1, 2013. Improvements include highway, road, rail, transit and bridge projects and other improvements across the state.&#160; Each year the six-year program is updated to reflect the latest projected revenues and transportation priorities.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>RICHMOND - Gov. Bob McDonnell, in recognition of National Transportation Week, today issued a proclamation celebrating the importance of transportation to the Commonwealth and highlighted the administration's progress toward addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Virginia's networks of roads, bridges, rail lines and transit facilities. Chief among the administration's successes is the recently enacted bipartisan transportation funding bill, which the governor ceremonially signed into law yesterday.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>RICHMOND - Gov. McDonnell announced today that the commonwealth collaborated with the best and brightest minds in the public and private sectors to utilize innovative technology to move traffic with greater ease throughout the state. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) issued a Notice of Intent to Award to Serco, Inc. to operate the state&#8217;s five transportation operations centers and manage the Safety Service Patrol. The contract is up for consideration by the Commonwealth Transportation Board, which will make a decision on whether to award the finalist during its meeting in June. &#160;The six-year contract is worth $355 million.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>RICHMOND &#8211; The Commonwealth Transportation Board will release the state&#8217;s working draft of the Fiscal Years 2014-2019 Six-Year Improvement Program at the next monthly meeting scheduled for May 15. The program will provide additional statewide funding as a result of the historic transportation funding plan passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Bob McDonnell this year.&#160;Funding will go toward highway, road and bridge projects as well as rail, transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation improvements across the state over the next six fiscal years beginning July 1, 2013.</p>
