Great Falls Road Closure Postponed
Due to a weather forecast for next week which calls for precipitation, the Virginia Department of Transportation is postponing the emergency repairs on a section of Walker Road between Harriman St. and Golden Falcon St. in Great Falls. Now the road will be closed from Monday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. until Friday, Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m., instead of Dec. 8 through Dec. 12.
The repairs are being made to pipes carrying Captain Hickory Run under Walker Road north of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) near the community of Hickory Run. Motorists bound for Georgetown Pike (Route 193), north of this section of road, will be detoured on the following route, which will add about 10 minutes to the normal travel time:
Detour: Leesburg Pike west, right on Springvale Road, right on Georgetown Pike back to Walker Road. The route will be clearly marked by VDOT variable message signs and direction signs. Motorists heading south from Georgetown Pike to Leesburg Pike will travel the detour in reverse.
