$35 million project links Kincaid Boulevard and Route 7 in Leesburg

CHANTILLY—State and local leaders opened the $35 million extension of the Battlefield Parkway to traffic today, providing motorists a key missing link along this north-south corridor in the Town of Leesburg.

The new four-lane road, which extends a little less than a mile from Kincaid Boulevard to Route 7, provides motorists an alternate option to Route 15 and the Route 15 Bypass for accessing the Dulles Greenway and Leesburg Executive Airport.

“This project is a tribute to the state and local officials who understood the importance of the project and the need for innovation and creativity on the part of VDOT and the private sector,” said Virginia Transportation Secretary Pierce Homer. “Our hat is off to them.”

The extension connects to Kincaid Boulevard at a new signalized intersection, and features twin bridges crossing the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park trail and Tuscarora Creek. A 10-foot wide bicycle and pedestrian path along the extension will also connect to new paths along Kincaid Boulevard and the future Russell Branch Parkway.

Under a design-build contract with Shirley Contracting Company, LLC, the project was completed on-time and under budget in less than 20 months.
