FAIRFAX – Due to light traffic volumes, Virginia will reverse HOV lanes an hour earlier on Interstates 395 and 95.

HOV lanes on I-395/I-95 will be HOV-3 and will be open to southbound traffic beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday. It was originally scheduled to take place at 3 p.m.
HOV lanes on Interstate 66 will be HOV-2 and westbound beginning at 4 p.m. today, as previously scheduled.

Due to overcrowding in the city, Metro Police have now closed access into Washington, D.C., from the walk/jog path that runs along the 14th Street Bridge. This path originates in Virginia along the George Washington Parkway.

Several Park and Ride lots have concluded their service for the morning and no additional Metro station parking lot closures have taken place since 8:30 a.m.

Virginia Metro station parking lot Ccosures as of 11 a.m.:

  • Van Dorn
  • Franconia-Springfield
  • Vienna
  • East Falls Church
  • Huntington
  • West Falls Church (preliminary report of parking lot closure)

Though the parking lots are closed to incoming traffic, the free transit bus service from designated Park and Ride lots will still be serving these Metro stations.

As of 9 a.m., the PRTC Omniride transit service has concluded its morning shuttles to the following Park and Ride lots in Prince William and Fairfax counties along I-95:

  • Northern Virginia Community College – Woodbridge campus
  • Horner Road Park and Ride lot – Intersection of I-95 and Prince William County Parkway
  • Hechinger Park and Ride lot – Old Bridge Road and Route 123

  • Route 123 Park and Ride lot

Between now and 3 p.m., PRTC will continue to run limited service between the parking lots and Metro. Outbound service from Metro to the designated Park and Rides will increase at 3 p.m. and run through 9 p.m.

The designated Park and Ride lots in Loudoun County also closed at 9 a.m. to further inbound transit service.

As scheduled, Loudoun County Transit has completed its shuttle service to the Metro stations this morning.

The affected Loudoun County lots are the Dulles North Park and Ride lot at the intersection of Lockridge Road and Moran Road, and the Barber and Ross Park and Ride lot at 110 Catoctin Circle SE.

Loudoun County Transit will resume outbound service from Metro to these designated Park and Ride lots at 3 p.m. today.

Traffic on I-95 from Richmond to Washington, D.C., continues to be light to moderate with no traffic incidents reported. Traffic is moving at 65 to 70 mph on Interstate 495 throughout Northern Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting traffic levels on secondary routes in Northern Virginia as 40 percent, less than as experienced on a typical day.
