NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN AT ROUTE 28 AND WELLINGTON ROAD
Southbound Route 28 traffic shifts to new bridge

MANASSAS ― On or about Oct. 15, drivers on Route 28 (Nokesville Road) can expect a new traffic pattern at the new overpass at Wellington Road in Manassas. The changes include:

  • Traffic heading south on Route 28 will be directed over the new bridge.
  • Traffic heading to Wellington Road from southbound Route 28 will now go over the bridge and turn left at the new traffic signal onto the new Wellington Road Connector.
  • Wellington Road traffic heading to Route 28 will turn on to the new Wellington Road Connector just east of the new bridge, and either turn left to go south or right to go north onto Route 28.

Cockrell Road will remain one-way from Route 28 for about three weeks until the new traffic signal is installed. It will then be converted to two-way traffic two and from Route 28.

The traffic pattern remains the same for northbound Route 28, and either direction of Wellington Road.

The new Route 28 overpass at Wellington Road and the Norfolk Southern Railroad will eliminate the at-grade railroad crossing, improving safety for drivers and pedestrians and eliminating bottlenecks for train stoppages. The entire $44 million project will be complete in November 2012. See the VDOT project page for more information.
