GILBERTS CORNER IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETE
New markings and signs to increase safety
GILBERTS CORNER — Drivers are asked to be aware of changes completed at the Gilberts Corner roundabout in Loudoun County, as the Virginia Department of Transportation has finished work to adjust curb lines, markings and signs, and create a single lane on all approaches from routes 15 and 50.
The work was completed two weeks early at a cost of about $300,000. “The team of state forces, consultants and contractors made the planned modifications quickly to increase safety,” said Michael Gleasman, P.E., VDOT’s area construction engineer for the project. “Our partners on the Route 50 Task Force have complimented the work and timeliness in completing it this season.”
VDOT made the changes to help reduce crashes related to speeding at the intersection. The adjustments included increasing curvature leading into the roundabout, making it more difficult for motorists to speed and simpler to navigate.
