GILBERTS CORNER WORK BEGINS TUESDAY
Drivers can expect off-peak traffic impacts on weekdays

gilberts.jpgGILBERTS CORNER — Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 8, drivers can expect flaggers near Gilberts Corner from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays as crews make changes to the four-year-old roundabout at the intersection of Routes 15 and 50. There may also be periodic detours through the roundabouts approaching the intersection as needed.

VDOT crews will adjust curb lines, pavement markings and signs to provide a single lane on all approaches to the roundabout as opposed to the two lanes currently in each direction from Route 15. Drivers should watch for new markings and signs.

VDOT is making the changes to help reduce an increase in crashes related to speeding at the intersection. The adjustments will increase the amount of curvature in the roadways leading into the roundabout, making it more difficult for motorists to speed and simpler to navigate.

The work will be complete by Thanksgiving. Read more about the project here.
