Summer-long detour starts June 25

CLIFTON—The Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Twin Lakes Drive this summer to rebuild the 1920s-era bridge over Johnny Moore Creek while Fairfax County schools are on summer break. Crews will close the road to through traffic June 25 and open the new bridge in late August.

The bridge’s alignment will remain the same, but the new crossing will be wider to match the roadway approach and to include a two-foot shoulder on each side. The replacement is a similarly designed single-span slab bridge.

Traffic Impacts

Summer-long detour starts June 25 – During construction, through traffic will be detoured via Union Mill Road, Braddock Road and Clifton Road. Private driveway and local street access between Union Mill Drive and Clifton Road will be maintained.

The $1 million project is being completed by Fort Meyer Contracting Company.
