NEW LANE ON I-395 NORTH NOW OPEN
Congestion relief between Duke St and Seminary Rd in time for tomorrow morning rush
ALEXANDRIA – Motorists on northbound I-395 can now breathe easier. The Virginia Department of Transportation opened a new lane between Duke Street and Seminary Road this afternoon.
This 0.8-mile auxiliary lane on I-395 connects the northbound on-ramp at Duke Street (Route 236) to the northbound off-ramp at Seminary Road and will ease congestion where motorists enter and exit I-395. It will also provide easier access to the Mark Center.
The $20 million auxiliary lane is part of a larger project at Seminary Road and I-395 that includes a new I-395 high occupancy vehicle (HOV) ramp to Seminary and a new pedestrian bridge over I-395. The reversible HOV/transit ramp to Seminary is scheduled to open in late September 2015.
