The Woods Road Reopens Saturday
New alignment features paved surface
LEESBURG – The Woods Road will reopen to traffic in its new fully-paved alignment on or about Saturday, Nov. 5, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The road has been closed to through traffic since late July in order to construct the new alignment from just east of Understory Way to a new intersection at Evergreen Mills Road. The new intersection is located about 1,100 feet north of the previous intersection, which will be permanently closed to traffic.
Besides pavement, the newly constructed portion of The Woods Road also features two stormwater ponds, ten-foot-wide lanes, as well as wide shoulders for cyclists.
The new alignment is the first phase of improvements to The Woods Road. This phase is scheduled for completion in spring 2017. Construction of the second phase, which will add turn lanes on Evergreen Mills Road, is scheduled to begin in spring 2018.
