Backlick Road "Pardon Our Dust" Meeting November 8
Learn more about CSX Railroad bridge replacement and meet project team

ALEXANDRIA – The Virginia Department of Transportation invites local residents and drivers to a “pardon our dust” meeting Wednesday, Nov. 8 to learn more about work getting underway to replace the existing two-lane Backlick Road bridge over the CSX Railroad with a slightly higher one that accommodates the addition of new railroad tracks as part of the Commonwealth’s Atlantic Gateway Project.

Stop by for an open house between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. to get information about the project, construction schedule and the upcoming closure of Backlick Road, and meet with the project team at Island Creek Elementary School, 7855 Morning View Lane, Alexandria, VA 22315.

The project’s other improvements include:

  • Wider shared-use path on bridge
  • New pavement on both ends of the bridge
  • New curb and gutter on the southern approach to the bridge
  • Wider entry at the north end of the bridge to provide more room for vehicles, particularly trucks

The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2019.
