Forest Mills Road Bridge over Crooked Run Closing Tomorrow
Detour in place during bridge replacement, fall 2017 project completion

LEESBURG – Beginning Wednesday, May 3, the Forest Mills Road (Route 727) bridge over Crooked Run will be closed until fall 2017 as it is replaced with a new single-lane structure, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The existing single-lane bridge, built in 1932, is in poor condition, meaning it should be replaced and can no longer carry today’s heavier vehicle loads. It averages 230 vehicles a day, and is projected to carry 300 vehicles a day in 2027.

The new bridge will have a similar alignment to the existing bridge, and safety will be improved with higher railings on the bridge and the addition of guardrail on the bridge approaches.

During construction, traffic will be detoured via Forest Mills Road, Ward Hills Road (Route 784), Hughesville Road (Route 725) and Lincoln Road (Route 722) back to Forest Mills Road.

Sagres Construction is the contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.
