Route 27/110 Project Closing Out 2017 with Milestones
New shared-use path opens Tuesday, eastbound traffic shifting onto new structure Wednesday night

ARLINGTON –The Route 27/110 bridge rehabilitation project will reach a pair of milestones next week, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

On Tuesday, Dec. 26, the permanent shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians along eastbound Route 27 will open. The shared-use path is 14 feet wide on the bridge (replacing a concrete sidewalk) and 10 feet wide on the approaches.

Between 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 and 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, eastbound Route 27 traffic will shift to the right onto the newly constructed portion of the bridge. Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes during the shift, which will allow crews to demolish the middle portion of the original bridge and rebuild it.

The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.
