Backlick Road at Fairfax County Parkway Closures November 12 - 16
Road reconstruction for Backlick Road over CSX Railroad project
NEWINGTON – Backlick Road at the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) intersection between Cinder Bed Road and Terminal Road will be closed nightly Monday, Nov. 12 through Friday, Nov. 16 from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning for road reconstruction, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Drivers will not have access to the Backlick Center South – II shopping center’s southern entrance during the work, but will still be able to access the shopping center’s northern entrance across from Terminal Road. In addition, all through lanes of northbound and southbound Fairfax County Parkway will remain open during the work.
The work is part of the project that’s replacing the existing two-lane Backlick Road bridge over the CSX Railroad with a slightly higher one. The new bridge will accommodate the addition of new railroad tracks as part of the Commonwealth’s Atlantic Gateway Project.
The new bridge is scheduled to open to traffic this winter, with final completion of the Backlick Road over CSX Railroad project scheduled for spring 2019.
