Lane Closures, Periodic Stoppages on I-66, Route 123 for Overhead Sign and Gantry Removal

FAIRFAX, Va. - Drivers should expect overnight lane closures and periodic late-night stoppages on I-66 East in the Centreville area as well as on Route 123 from Monday, August 27 through Thursday, August 30 as crews remove overhead gantries. Work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project.

Details include: 

Monday, August 27: I-66 East Between Route 29 in Centreville and Route 28

  • Left three left lanes closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. between Route 29 in Centreville and Route 28

Tuesday, August 28: I-66 East Between Route 29 in Centreville and Stringfellow Road

  • Three left lanes closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. between Route 29 in Centreville and Stringfellow Road

Wednesday, August 29: I-66 East Between Route 29 in Centreville and Stringfellow Road

  • Three left lanes closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. between Route 29 in Centreville and Stringfellow Road

Thursday, August 30: Northbound and Southbound Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) between White Granite Drive and Eaton Place

  • Single-lane closure between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur. The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
