TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES TWO CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $399,000
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va.—Acting Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner Gregory Whirley approved two contracts yesterday valued at approximately $399,000 for central Virginia construction and maintenance.
J.L. Kent & Sons, Inc. of Spotsylvania, Virginia was awarded a $234,000 contract to construct 0.36 miles of new road along Route 724 in central Hanover County. The new road will provide two nine foot lanes, two foot graded shoulders and three foot ditches. Anticipated completion is November 2006.
Interstate Construction Corporation, Inc. of Richmond, Virginia was awarded a $165,000 contract to overlay asphalt to two sections of Blair Road (Route 649) in Goochland County, one at Patterson Avenue (Route 6) and the second at River Road (Route 650). This will provide for a smoother riding surface by eliminating the current dips in the road. There will be lane closures associated with this work. However, motorists will continue to have access to properties in the construction area. Anticipated completion is November 2006.
