VDOT’s Richmond District Completes Projects On-time and On-budget
Significant accomplishments for fiscal year 2006

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va.— The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Richmond District continues to improve its delivery of on-time and on-budget construction and maintenance projects, according to its fourth quarter report. Results for the 2006 fiscal year, which ran from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006, show substantial accomplishments, including 100% on-time for construction projects.

“Accomplishments of this magnitude require many people working together toward a common goal,” said Tom Hawthorne, VDOT Richmond District administrator. “Our project delivery teams, made up of contractors, material suppliers, employees and inspectors, work collectively to deliver quality results.” This is the third consecutive fiscal year that the district has met its on time goal.

Jeff Southard, executive vice president of the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance, said "The Richmond District accomplishments demonstrate how VDOT and the private sector can partner to meet taxpayer expectations of delivering road projects on-time and on-budget."

In a major effort to conduct business in the public eye, VDOT began releasing quarterly reports and launched its Project Dashboard in 2003. The Dashboard is an online system that provides the latest status on construction projects. It was expanded in 2005 to include the daily status of construction, engineering, maintenance and operations, safety, finance and environmental compliance.

The Richmond District is responsible for the administration of VDOT’s programs in eight cities and 14 counties in central Virginia.
