ATLEE STATION ROAD PROJECT ENTERING PHASE 3
Detours starting next week to impact Dickey Drive and Atlee Station Road

HANOVER COUNTY — The Atlee Station Road widening project will begin the third of four phases next week to include two separate detours involving Dickey Drive and Atlee Station Road. These detours will be in place through early June.

The first detour, phase 3A, will begin on April 23. Contractors will lower Dickey Drive approximately five feet in order to tie in with the final grade at Atlee Station Road. This will prepare Dickey Drive for the phase 3B detour of Atlee Station Road.

Due to the elements involved with phase 3A, motorists will be unable to access Dickey Drive from Atlee Station Road (see 3A detour map) for approximately two weeks. However, motorists will continue to have access to businesses along Dickey Drive from Route 301 via Leon Lane. In addition, Atlee Station Road motorists will continue to have access to Route 301 during this phase.

The second detour, phase 3B, will begin following the completion of phase 3A, which is estimated to be completed in early May (NOTE: Due to possible weather or other unforeseen delays, completion dates are approximate). In this phase, the elevation of Atlee Station Road will be lowered by as much as seven feet.

Due to phase 3B activities and utility work, the section of Atlee Station Road between Route 301 and Dickey Drive will be closed. Motorists will be detoured around the work zone for approximately 30 to 40 days (see 3B detour map). Travelers along Atlee Station Road will be required to use Dickey Drive to Leon Lane in order to access Route 301. Route 301 motorists will use Leon Lane to Dickey Drive in order to access Atlee Station Road. Timing modifications will be made to the traffic signal at Route 301 and Leon Drive, as necessary, to accommodate detour traffic.

The purpose of the Atlee Station Road widening project is to provide wider travel lanes and shoulders, and improved turn lane access to the adjacent schools and subdivisions. This will allow for smoother traffic flow and less congestion. VDOT began construction of this $12 million project in May 2006 and anticipate completion in Nov. 2007.
