TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES 18 CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $16 MILLION

RICHMOND—Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner David Ekern approved 18 contracts last week valued at approximately $16 million for central Virginia construction and maintenance.

Colony Construction, Inc. of Powhatan, Virginia was awarded a contract valued at $138,000 to improve the drainage and safety on I-85 northbound where it joins I-95 in Petersburg. The project involves installing pipes, and excavating and backfilling concrete drainage structures. In addition, the current pipes will be connected to the existing storm drainage system. All work will be done within the existing shoulder on the I-85 northbound ramp during non-peak hours. Anticipated completion date for this project is April 2007.

Key Construction Company, Inc. of Clarksville, Virginia was awarded a contract valued at $946,000 to replace the existing bridge on Route 40 over Reedy Creek in Dinwiddie County. The project is located between Blackstone and McKinney and will be performed in two stages. A temporary signal will be used to regulate alternating traffic in one lane during construction. Anticipated completion date for this project is December 2007.

A & P Services, LLC of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina was awarded a contract valued at $316,000 to restore and replace various guardrails in Mecklenburg and Dinwiddie counties. The work will take place in Mecklenburg on Route 92 and Route 47, and in Dinwiddie on Route 460. Anticipated completion date for this project is July 2007.

B. P Short & Son Paving Co., Inc. of Petersburg, Virginia was awarded four contracts totaling $3.3 million for paving in various locations throughout the Richmond district.

Interstate Construction Corporation of Richmond, Virginia was awarded 11 contracts valued at $11 million for paving in various locations throughout the Richmond district.
