VDOT ANNOUNCES AMELIA AND ASHLAND RESIDENCY ADMINISTRATORS
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va.—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Richmond District recently appointed a new Residency Administrator to both the Amelia and Ashland residencies. These individuals will lead local transportation projects and services in Amelia, Nottoway and Lunenburg counties (Amelia Residency), and Goochland and Hanover counties (Ashland Residency).
Billy S. Smith officially became the Residency Administrator for the Amelia Residency last week. He has been serving as Acting Residency Administrator since May 2006 following the promotion of Robert Bowman to District Maintenance Engineer. Smith has been with VDOT for 28 years, having held various positions at the Amelia Residency including equipment operator, foreman, area superintendent, maintenance operations manager and most recently Assistant Residency Administrator, a position he held for five years.
Jorg Huckabee-Mayfield will assume the role of Ashland Residency Administrator in April. She has worked for VDOT for nearly 20 years and is currently the Residency Administrator at the Fredericksburg Residency, a position she has held since late 2005. Prior to her assignment in Fredericksburg, Huckabee-Mayfield was responsible for land development reviews for Prince William and Fairfax counties, and was involved in the planning of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project in northern Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia (UVA) and holds a Master’s degree in civil engineering and public administration from UVA and George Mason University respectively. Miles Pierce, Assistant Residency Administrator, will continue as Acting Residency Administrator until Huckabee-Mayfield makes the transition to the Richmond District.
“I am pleased to add such fine professionals to our team,” said Richmond District Administrator Tom Hawthorne. “As VDOT’s front-line leaders, their role is critical in carrying out our mission of delivering the best possible transportation system for the traveling public.”
