TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES TWO CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $1.5 MILLION

RICHMOND— Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner David Ekern approved two contracts yesterday valued at approximately $1.5 million for central Virginia construction and maintenance.

Branscome, Inc. of Williamsburg, Virginia was awarded a $1.1 million contract to widen Pole Green Road from two 10 ft. lanes to four 12 ft. lanes from the intersection of Rt. 627 and Bartan Springs Dr. to Rt. 627 and Rt. 642 (Bell Creek Rd.). The project also includes widening along Rt. 642 from the intersection of Rt.627 and Rt. 642 as well as installing turn lanes. One lane will be open in each direction during construction. Expected completion is July 2009.

Lee Hy Paving Corporation of Glen Allen, Virginia was awarded a $427,000 contract to overlay five miles of Rt. 602 (Lott Cary Road and South Lott Cary Road) in Charles City County. The project will also include new pavement markings, guardrail upgrades and shoulder stone, which will eliminate shoulder drop off. Anticipated completion is Nov. 2008.
