TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES TWO CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $343,000

RICHMOND— Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner David Ekern approved two contracts yesterday valued at approximately $343,000 for central Virginia construction and maintenance.

J.L. Kent & Sons, Inc. of Spotsylvania, Virginia was awarded a $265,000 contract for sidewalk installation and drainage improvements in Powhatan County. This work is being done to facilitate pedestrian access in the historic Powhatan Village. The one mile project begins just west of Old Buckingham Road (Route 13) on Mann Road (Route 687) and continues to slightly south of Mann Road on Old Buckingham Road in Powhatan County. Expected completion date is May 2009.

Blakemore Construction Corporation of Richmond, Virginia was awarded a $78,000 contract to complete a pedestrian link between Newby’s Bridge Road and Turner Road in Chesterfield County. The project is primarily for pedestrian safety and the new sidewalk will match the existing sidewalk from an earlier project. Anticipated completion is March 2009.
