TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES TWO CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $2.2 MILLION

RICHMOND—Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner David Ekern approved two contracts last week valued at approximately $2.2 million for central Virginia construction and maintenance.

George Nice & Sons Inc. of Williamsburg was awarded a $353,000 contract to add a left turn lane to Harrowgate Road (Route 144) north at Treely Road in Chester. The project also includes construction of a sidewalk, curb and gutter to the northbound side of Harrowgate Road at this intersection. The new turn lane will allow for smoother traffic flow and potentially fewer rear-end collisions. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during peak hours (5:30-9 a.m. and 3-6:30 p.m.). Expect delays during non-peak hours. Completion anticipated in September 2009.

Branscome Inc. of Williamsburg was awarded a $1.8 million contract to mill the existing pavement and apply an asphalt overlay to the following routes through September 2009. Expect alternating lane closures and minor delays during construction.

  • Route 360 west (Amelia) between just west of Military Road (Route 153) and Butlers Road (Route 628).
  • Route 460 west (Dinwiddie) between Courthouse Road (Route 627) and just west of Route 1501
  • A one-mile stretch of Route 460 west (Dinwiddie) just west of the Route 608 intersection
  • Route 460 east (Dinwiddie) between Colemans Lake Road (Route 624) and Courthouse Road (Route 627)
