TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES TWO RICHMOND DISTRICT CONTRACTS VALUED AT $1.3 MILLION

COLONIAL HEIGHTS—Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner David Ekern approved two contracts last week valued at approximately $1.3 million for Richmond area construction and maintenance.

English Construction Company Inc. of Lynchburg, VA was awarded a $1 million contract to replace the superstructure and to make substructure repairs the Route 46 bridge over the CSX railroad in Brunswick County. Route 46 will be closed to remove and replace the existing superstructure and repair the substructure and abutments. Traffic will be detoured periodically throughout the construction. The project is expected to be complete in August 2010.

Richard L. Crowder Construction, Inc. of Petersburg, VA was awarded a $269,000 contract to widen, replace ditches with storm drainage, install curb, gutter, and sidewalk on the south side of Route 601 and install a right turn lane from Route 601 to Route 600 in Dinwiddie County. Construction is anticipated to be complete in May 2010.
