TRANSPORTATION BOARD APPROVES TWO CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $6.6 MILLION
COLONIAL HEIGHTS—The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved two contracts last week valued at approximately $6.6 million for central Virginia construction and maintenance.
Slurry Pavers Inc. of Glen Allen was awarded a $2.2 million contract to apply pavement sealant to various locations throughout the Richmond District. The project is expected to be complete in November 2010.
Henrico County was awarded $4.4 million to administer the construction of the John Rolfe Parkway to be completed by F.G. Pruitt Inc. of Richmond, VA.
John Rolfe Parkway Phase II involves the construction of just over one mile of a new four-lane, divided roadway with curb, gutter and associated storm sewer facilities. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of John Rolfe Parkway and Ridgefield Parkway. A sidewalk will also be constructed along one side of the entire length of the project.
This project will improve traffic flow and distribution by providing additional access and capacity to the existing roadway system. This roadway will be an essential link that connects the already completed portion of John Rolfe Parkway (south of this project) to the ongoing construction project of John Rolfe Parkway – Phase I (north of this project). This project is a critical component of the long term traffic plan for the far west end of Henrico County.
This project will be constructed on mostly undeveloped land that has been reserved for this roadway within a developed residential community. Henrico County will own and maintain this completed roadway.
