EXPECT DELAYS, DETOURS IN RICHMOND MAY 2-4 FOR USA CYCLING COLLEGIATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Drivers should plan ahead to avoid heavy traffic and know the best way to reach destinations

COLONIAL HEIGHTS – As the City of Richmond welcomes the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championship May 2-4, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) encourages drivers to plan travel accordingly to avoid heavy traffic delays and to learn the best alternate routes to reach their destinations. The bike races will take place in downtown Richmond, which will close metro area streets as well as ramps on Interstate 95 and the Downtown Expressway.

“Traffic impacts will be different each day of the race. Expect heavier traffic on Friday and Sunday, especially on the interstates near the metro area and on roads in the vicinity of the courses,” said Tom Hawthorne, Richmond District Administrator, “Commuters to downtown Richmond will want to carefully plan their travel, especially on Friday, to avoid major delays.”

The planning organization, Richmond 2015, has broken downtown Richmond into four main areas as destinations; the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) area, the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) campus/Fan area, the Capitol area and the Shockoe area.
