VDOT POSTING THE DAVIS MILL ROAD CULVERT IN GOOCHLAND COUNTY TO THREE TONS

COLONIAL HEIGHTS—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is posting the Davis Mill Road (Route 608) culvert over Lickinghole Creek in Goochland County to three tons as the result of findings in an inspection. Bridge inspectors recommended a weight limit due to advanced deterioration of the pipe culvert.

The bridge carries approximately 300 vehicles per day. VDOT recommends drivers of vehicles over three tons use the following 9 mile detour routes:

  • Eastbound Davis Mill Road – Take Davis Mill Road (Route 608) east to Whitehall Road (Route 673) west to Hadensville-Fife Road (Route 606) south back to Davis Mill Road (Route 608) east.
  • Westbound Davis Mill Road – Take Hadensville-Fife Road (Route 606) north to Whitehall Road (Route 673) back to Davis Mill Road (Route 608) west.

VDOT has posted weight limit signs on the approaches to the culvert. Local police are responsible for enforcing the restriction. For more information on VDOT’s bridge inspection program, visit http://www.virginiadot.org/info/bridge.asp.
