TRAVEL TIMES TO BE DISPLAYED ALONG I-95 STARTING MONDAY - VDOT seeking commuter feedback during the testing phase

Starting Monday, May 6, I-95 commuters will see travel times displayed on five existing overhead message signs between Chesterfield County and Hanover County. Similar message signs have proved successful in areas such as Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads in providing accurate, real-time travel time information to drivers, allowing them to choose whether to continue on their route or take an alternate. Travel times also reduce trip-related anxiety and traffic congestion.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Richmond District is prepared for a winter storm that could bring a wintery mix to the region through tomorrow morning. According to weather forecasts, rain and freezing rain overnight will change over to a snow/sleet mix as air and pavement temperatures drop early tomorrow. This will result in icy driving conditions during the morning commute for many parts of the Richmond area to include Chesterfield, Powhatan, Goochland, Hanover and Henrico counties. Drivers are encouraged to monitor weather conditions throughout this storm and be prepared to alter their travel plans, if necessary.
