TRAFFIC ALERT: ACCIDENT DAMAGES INTERSTATE 81 BRIDGE OVER ROUTE 611 IN PULASKI COUNTY
A portion of Route 611 and one lane of southbound Interstate 81 will be closed indefinitely.

A bridge carrying southbound Interstate 81 over Route 611 (Newbern Road) in Pulaski County has been struck by an overheight vehicle.  Route 611 is closed near Route 643 (Cougar Trail), and the left lane of southbound Interstate 81 is closed at mile marker 97.

At this time, both Route 611 and the left lane of southbound I-81 will be closed indefinitely at this location.  Traffic is being detoured from Route 611 onto Route 643 (Cougar Trail) and SO 47, a service road.

VDOT crews have inspected the I-81 bridge over Route 611 and have determined that several bridge beams have been damaged and need repaired.  It could take up to several weeks to repair the beams.
