TRAFFIC ALERT: EXPECT DAILY LANE CLOSURES AS WORK BEGINS ON ROUTE 817 BRIDGE IN BOTETOURT COUNTY

Starting Wednesday, May 7, work to replace the wooden riding surface of the Route 817 (?>Old Rail Road) bridge over Craig Creek in Botetourt County will begin.

The bridge is located in Oriskany, about 0.6 mile from Route 704 (Branchwater Road) and 0.2 mile from Route 770 (Edlo Lane).  Drivers can expect the bridge to be closed daily, Monday through Thursday.

However, traffic will be able to use the bridge starting before 9 a.m., around lunchtime and after 4 p.m. each day.  Emergency service vehicles will be permitted to cross the bridge at any time.  An alternative route around the bridge is not currently available.

Work is expected to be performed May 7 through June 20.

Message boards have been posted at the bridge to alert motorists to this change in traffic patterns.
