ONE LANE OF SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 81 IS NOW OPEN IN ROANOKE COUNTY AFTER TRACTOR-TRAILER CRASH
Traffic backups are approximately five miles

SALEM – 2 p.m. update: The left lane of southbound Interstate 81 is now open at mile marker 141 in Roanoke County near the Route 419 Interchange after a tractor-trailer crash Friday morning.  The right lane of southbound I-81 and the exit ramp to Route 419 remain closed at this time.

In addition, backups of approximately three miles are present on northbound I-81 at mile marker 141.  All northbound lanes are open. 

The Route 419 bridge over Interstate 81 is also open in this area.  The bridge was closed earlier due to the tractor-trailer crash.  

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and expect delays as cleanup work is ongoing.  For up to the minute traffic information, call 511 or log onto www.511virginia.org.
