TRAFFIC ALERT: CRASH DAMAGES ELM AVENUE BRIDGE OVER INTERSTATE 581 IN ROANOKE
Motorists should expect lane closures on I-581 on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

A bridge carrying Elm Avenue over Interstate 581 in Roanoke has been struck by an overheight vehicle.  The tractor-trailer was headed northbound on I-581 Monday around 1:30p.m. when it struck the Elm Avenue bridge.  VDOT crews have inspected the bridge and have found several cracks in one of the bridge beams.  At this time, there are no lane closures on I-581 or Elm Avenue.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, motorists should watch for various lane closures on I-581 northbound and southbound as crews conduct a more detailed inspection of the bridge to determine what repairs are needed.
