TRAFFIC ALERT: A SECTION OF COLONIAL AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC IN ROANOKE COUNTY
Traffic will be detoured Tuesday, June 16 through Thursday, Aug. 27

SALEM – Beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, Route 720 (Colonial Avenue) will be closed to through traffic between Route 1593 (Vest Drive) and Route 1620 (Hazel Drive) in southwest Roanoke County.  In addition, the intersection of Route 720 (Colonial Avenue) and Route 687 (Penn Forest Boulevard) will also be closed. 

Crews will be working to construct a roundabout near the intersection of Colonial Avenue and Penn Forest Boulevard as part of the Colonial Avenue improvement project.  This portion of Colonial Avenue is expected to be closed through Thursday, Aug. 27. 

The following detours have been established:

From the intersection of Colonial Avenue and Route 419:

Drivers should follow Route 419 (Electric Road) north to Route 221 (Brambleton Avenue) to Colonial Avenue.

From the intersection of Colonial Avenue and Brambleton Avenue:

Drivers should follow Route 221 (Brambleton Avenue) to Route 419 (Electric Road) to Colonial Avenue.

From Route 687 (Penn Forest Boulevard):

Drivers should turn left onto Route 1648 (Topping Hill Road), then right onto Route 613 (Merriman Road) to Colonial Avenue.

Signs and electronic message boards will be posted to advise motorists of the detour.
