TRAFFIC ALERT: VDOT RESCHEDULES TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE IN FIELDALE DUE TO RAIN
The previously announced traffic change for Tuesday, May 12 at the intersection of Route 609 (South Daniels Creek Road) and Route 682 (River Road) in Fieldale has been rescheduled due to rainy weather. Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation now plans to make the traffic change on Wednesday, May 13.
The intersection of Route 609 and Route 682 serves as part of a detour currently in place to route traffic between Route 701 and Route 57. Traffic has been using this detour since April when the Route 701 bridge over the Smith River was closed, so it could be replaced.
VDOT announced plans last week to implement a new traffic pattern at the intersection of Route 609 and Route 682 to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on this detour route. However, new pavement markings required to make the change could not be installed due to rainy weather, so VDOT has rescheduled.
Once this traffic change is made, traffic on Route 609 will no longer be required to stop at its intersection with Route 682. Instead, new stop signs will be installed requiring Route 682 traffic to stop at this intersection.
Questions about the bridge replacement can be directed to VDOT’s Martinsville Residency Office at 276-629-2581.
