TRAFFIC ALERT: WORK BEGINS ON INTERSTATE 77 BRIDGES AT MILE MARKER 23 IN CARROLL COUNTY

Work has begun to rehabilitate a pair of bridges on Interstate 77 in Carroll County.  The bridges are located at mile marker 23.6 and carry northbound and southbound I-77 over Route 743 (Pleasant Hill Road).  These bridges are located about 0.6 mile south of the Wythe County line.

On Tuesday, April 21, a work zone with a barricade wall will be set up on I-77 southbound at mile marker 23.6.  Two lanes of traffic will remain open on southbound I-77, but traffic will be shifted onto the paved shoulder. The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

In addition, on Tuesday, April 21, shoulder paving on northbound I-77 will be performed causing a right lane closure during nighttime hours.  Within the next few weeks, a similar work zone to the one on southbound I-77 with two lanes of traffic remaining open, a barricade wall and speed limit reduction, also will be set up on northbound I-77.

Motorists are advised to be alert to changing traffic patterns on northbound and southbound I-77 in Carroll County.   In the months ahead, several traffic pattern changes are expected, especially during nighttime hours.
