VDOT AWARDS CONTRACT FOR ROUTE 220 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN HENRY COUNTY

SALEM – The Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to improve a section of Route 220 (Virginia Avenue) in Henry County.  The contract worth approximately $180,329 was awarded to H & S Construction Co. from Roanoke.

The project is intended to enhance safety along a 950-foot section of Route 220 (Virginia Avenue) at the Route 1210 (Dyer Street) intersection.  Work includes installing a 665-foot section of concrete median and 125 feet of curb and gutter on Route 220.

The concrete median will promote right-in- and right-out traffic movements to the businesses adjacent to the Dyer Street and Virginia Avenue intersection.

Work on the project should be under way by this spring and is expected to be completed in summer 2010.
