VDOT WARNS DRIVERS OF ICY ROADS ON CHRISTMAS MORNING
High winds could down trees later today

SALEM – With freezing rain spreading across southwestern Virginia in the early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 25, motorists are strongly encouraged to consider postponing travel until temperatures rise enough for the participation to change over to rain.  A difference in just a few degrees of air or ground temperatures will impact how much ice or sleet will accumulate on roads.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is monitoring road conditions to treat icing with a mixture of chemicals and abrasives.  VDOT crews are also prepared to respond to any downed trees caused by high winds.

Updated road conditions are available at www.511Virginia.org or by dialing 511.
