A PORTION OF ROUTE 633 IN BOTETOURT COUNTY WILL BE CLOSED THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK

SALEM – A portion of Route 633 (McKinney Hollow Road) near Route 220 (Botetourt Road) near Gala is expected to remain closed through early next week.  A 14-foot diameter pipe under Route 633 collapsed during heavy flooding that occurred in Botetourt County earlier this week and the road has been closed since Monday, Jan. 25.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are working extended hours to construct a temporary bridge that will serve residents in the community until permanent repairs can be made. Residents in the Fairfield Farms neighborhood are encouraged to use Route 633 in Alleghany County to access the subdivision until the road is reopened.  VDOT has coordinated with Botetourt County and Alleghany County emergency services agencies to ensure emergency response will not be disrupted during the road closure.

Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before they leave home by calling 511 or logging in to 511Virginia.org
