COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD AWARDS CONTRACT FOR
SALEM – The Commonwealth Transportation Board at its Sept. 15 meeting in Richmond awarded a design-build contract to replace the Route 61 bridge over the New River, Route 460 and Old Virginia Avenue in Narrows. The contract worth approximately $15.6 million was awarded to Key Construction Company Inc. from Clarkesville.
The purpose of the project is to replace the existing structurally deficient Route 61 bridge with a new two-lane bridge with two sidewalks, bike lanes and roadway approaches.
The design-build contract will include completing design, acquisition of right of way and easements, utility relocations and construction, replacement of the bridge, and realignment and construction of roadway approaches along MacArthur Lane and Fleshman Street.
Construction work on the project is estimated to begin sometime in 2011 and is expected to be completed in fall of 2013.
