TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 927 (IRON BRIDGE ROAD) WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC IN FRANKLIN COUNTY

SALEM - Beginning Monday, July 12, Route 927 (Iron Bridge Road) in Franklin County will be closed to traffic, so crews can take rock and soil borings needed to develop future plans to replace the bridge over the Norfolk and Southern railroad tracks.  The section of Route 927 extends between its intersections with Route 40 (Franklin Street) and Route 864 (Old Ferrum Road).

Weather permitting, traffic on this section of Route 927 will be impacted for two weeks as follows:

For the first week, starting Monday, July 12, the road will remain closed, and traffic will be detoured around the closure until Friday, July 16.  Westbound Route 927 traffic can detour using Route 640 (Six Mile Post Road) to Route 756 (Old Forge Road) to Route 864 to Route 40.  Eastbound traffic will use Route 864 to Route 756 to Route 640.

The second week, starting Monday, July 19, drivers can expect Route 927 to be closed on weekdays each from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

These dates are tentative and could be adjusted depending on weather and work schedule.

Message boards will be installed on Route 40 to alert motorists to the upcoming closure on Route 927.
