4:30 a.m.

Motorists in areas of the Salem District of the Virginia Department of Transportation should plan ahead and use caution this morning. Following snow showers yesterday and last night some icy conditions are reported.

As of 4:30 a.m., icy patches were reported in portions of Giles, Montgomery, Patrick and Pulaski counties.  In addition, snow and ice covered roads were reported in Floyd County.

Also in Floyd County, Route 221 from Route 642 north and south to Route 610 east and west remains closed.  An incident yesterday resulted in downed power lines.  The lines should be repaired later today.

Motorists should know the conditions before beginning travel, slow down and allow extra time and pay particular attention to bridges and overpasses which freeze before roadways.
