TRAFFIC ALERT: ROADWAY DEBRIS FOLLOWING INTERSTATE 81 BLASTING DETOURS TRAFFIC

During a blasting operation on Interstate 81 earlier this morning as part of the construction project to build a truck climbing lane at mile marker 121 in Montgomery County, debris has unexpectedly fallen into the roadway.

Southbound Interstate 81 is estimated to be closed for approximately three to four hours for debris clean-up.

Traffic will be detoured off southbound I-81 at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) in Roanoke County onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118C in Christiansburg.

Message boards are in place advising motorists that southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured.

For updates on the I-81 detour, visit www.511Virginia.org or dial 511.
