SALEM – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public information meeting for citizens to review information and ask questions regarding the construction of a truck climbing lane on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County. Construction on the project is expected to begin next month. All citizens interested in the project are encouraged to attend.
The meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke Street – Multi-Purpose Room # 1 in Christiansburg.
The project will add a 12-foot continuous truck climbing lane to southbound I-81 from milepost 120 near Christiansburg to milepost 125. Work will also be performed to upgrade the median and outside shoulder of I-81. Most widening will occur on the outside shoulder, but some widening may be required in the median.
The information meeting will include displays and project representatives will be available to answer questions. The meeting includes a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. Citizens can stop by any time between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to talk one-on-one with project representatives and submit written comments.
