SNOW CREATES SLICK ROADS THROUGHOUT WESTERN VIRGINIA

SALEM – As of 10 p.m., roads throughout the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District are snow covered.  This evening’s snowfall and low temperatures have created slick and icy roads.  Motorists are advised to use extreme caution if they must drive.

Equipment operators currently are out treating roads and pushing snow.  Crews will focus on clearing interstate and primary roads (those numbered 1-599) until the snow stops and these roads are cleared.  Secondary roads and neighborhood streets (those numbered 600 and above) will not be plowed until the snow stops and the major roads have been treated.

The 12-county VDOT Salem District includes the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Franklin, Floyd, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke.

For the latest road conditions and incident reports, dial 511 or visit the Web site at www.511Virginia.org.

To report emergencies, citizens are reminded to dial 911.
