TRAFFIC ALERT: NIGHTTIME DETOURS PLANNED FOR INTERSTATE 81 IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

SALEM –  As part of the ongoing road construction project to build a five-mile truck climbing lane along southbound Interstate 81 in Montgomery County between mile markers 120 and 125, bridge beams will be set into place on the Route 636 (Seneca Hollow Road) bridge over I-81.  Weather permitting, bridge beams are expected to be placed two nights next week.

A large crane will be used to lower the concrete beams onto the new bridge.  To allow for equipment mobilization, delivery and placement of the beams, one direction of I-81 traffic will be detoured onto Route 11/460 during nighttime hours as follows:

On Monday, Aug. 27, southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg) from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.

On Tuesday, Aug. 28, northbound I-81 traffic will be detoured onto Route 11/460 at exit 118C (Christiansburg) and back onto I-81 at exit 132 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.

Dates and times are tentative and could be adjusted due to weather or work schedule.  Signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers to these traffic detours.

Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013.
