SALEM – Jen K. Ward, of Eagle Rock, is the new communications coordinator for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District Office.  Ward will serve as a media and public affairs contact for a 12-county transportation district in western Virginia and help to carry out a program to communicate VDOT’s activities and policies to a variety of audiences.  

Ward has more than 17 years of experience working in communications.  Since 2004, she has operated Blue Filly Productions, her own public relations and marketing firm offering services in advertising, media relations, publications, crisis communications, graphics, event planning, marketing and web site design.

Ward is an award-winning, creative professional whose work has been recognized by the Public Relations Society of America and Hermes Creative Awards.  During her career, she has served as director of marketing and communications for the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council and worked as the website manager for the University of Saint Joseph.

Jen is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America, Blue Ridge Chapter, currently serving on the Board of Directors as Secretary and is Treasurer-elect for 2015.She is an avid horse enthusiast, a member of Fincastle Baptist Church, and enjoys volunteering in animal rehabilitation and advocacy. She also enjoys teaching and writing and is an award-winning magazine columnist and blogger
