SALEM DISTRICT: BE ALERT TO ICY ROADS IN SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA
Many secondary roads and neighborhood streets are icy with frozen snow
SALEM – Yesterday’s snow showers combined with cold temperatures to create icy roads in many areas in southwestern Virginia.
This morning, drivers should watch for isolated slick spots on the interstates (I-77, I-81 and I-581) and the primary roads (those numbered 1-599). Along these major routes, motorists should use extra caution on bridges, overpasses, ramps, cooler spots and in the higher elevations.
Many secondary roads (those numbered 600 and above) or neighborhood streets throughout the region, particularly in the higher elevations, are icy and covered with frozen snow.
As temperatures rise throughout the day, road conditions are expected to improve.
