    <title>VDOT PROVIDES ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE FOR WESTERN VIRGINIA - Secondary and neighborhood streets are snow covered in some counties</title>
    <link>http://www.virginiadot.org/newsroom/salem/2012/vdot_provides_road_conditions55843.asp</link>
    <description>
SALEM – With snow mostly in the western counties in Virginia Department of Transportation’s 12-county Salem District, snow plow operators and snow removal contractors have worked over night.  Crews will continue to plow roads today, particular secondary roads (those numbed 600 and above) and neighborhood streets in some areas.

Snow plow operators and contractors have worked overnight throughout the region.  This morning, drivers will find the interstates in Pulaski, Montgomery, Roanoke and Botetourt counties clear and most primary roads (those numbered 1-599) are clear or in minor condition with just a few isolated slick spots.

    <title>EQUIPMENT OPERATORS SPENT THE DAY PLOWING SECONDARY ROADS IN SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA</title>
    <link>http://www.virginiadot.org/newsroom/salem/2012/equipment_operators_spent_the55844.asp</link>
    <description>
SALEM – Snow plow operators with the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District plowed secondary roads (those numbered 600 and above) and neighborhood streets today in areas where snow accumulated overnight.  Their efforts were focused mostly on secondary roads in Floyd, Carroll, Giles, Montgomery, Patrick and Pulaski counties.

Conditions have improved on most secondary roads and they are in minor condition, (mostly clear with isolated slick spots) but snow plow drivers will continue to monitor conditions overnight as lower temperatures may cause roads to freeze and become icy.

As of 5:30 p.m., Interstate 77, I-81 and I-581 are clear.  Drivers should use caution at bridges and ramps and watch for slick spots overnight.

All major roads (those numbered 1-599) are clear with the possibility of slick spots forming in cooler areas in higher elevations overnight.

Some secondary roads, particularly in cooler spots in the New River Valley, and in higher elevations, may still have some icy spots and snow on the roadway.  Drivers should use caution.  Snow plow operators will monitor conditions overnight in these locations.

For the latest road conditions, motorists can dial 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.

This will be the last news release associated with this event. </description>
