STATEWIDE ROAD CONDITIONS 2:30PM

Road conditions are extremely slick across the state. Numerous accidents are reported in areas where snow and sleet are falling.

While snow is falling in the northern region of Virginia, sleet and freezing rain is coating roads with a layer of ice in Central Virginia. Snow and icy conditions are also reported in the Salem and Lynchburg regions.

VDOT crews are applying salt and sand on road surfaces and plowing snow where accumulation is two inches or more.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive gently. Do not make sudden moves on ice, or you may spin out of control. Avoid travel if possible where snow and sleet are falling.

Road conditions:

I-81 corridor - mostly moderate

I-77 - minor

I-64 - mostly moderate from western Virginia to Richmond

I-95 - mostly moderate from the North Carolina border to I-95 in Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford

I-66 - mostly moderate

I-85 - moderate condition in some areas

Minor conditions reported on major roadways in the Peninsula.

Road Condition Definitions
