STATEWIDE WINTER ROAD CONDITIONS
I-95 gridlocked in Richmond region
4pm

As roads clear in the western region of the state, road conditions worsen in some portions of the eastern regions of the state. Sections of I-95 in the Richmond region are snow covered with numerous accidents reported. Lengthy backups are on both the north and southbound sides. There are also weather related delays and accidents on I-64 east of Richmond.

Other roads in Central Virginia are mostly in moderate condition – with some ice or snow on the pavement. In Hampton Roads, roads are in minor to moderate condition – mostly clear with some snow cover. In Northern Virginia, roads are mostly in minor condition – bare pavement with some snow and icy spots.

As the snow moves out of the state tonight, freezing temperatures will cause slick roads and make it more difficult for salt and chemicals to melt snow and ice.

VDOT urges motorists to drive with extreme care. Motorists can contact the VDOT Highway Helpline at 1-800-367-ROAD or visit VDOT’s Web site at www.VirginiaDOT.org for the latest information on interstate and primary road conditions. Go to http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/eoc-mainwebcams.asp to view VDOT’s highway Web cams.
